There are seven ways in which we can establish ourselves firmly in the Word of God:
1. Read the Word — Feed your spirit by making a habit of reading God’s Word every day.
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” (Proverbs 4:20,21)
2. Study the Word — Beyond just reading, cultivate the habit of digging deeper into the Word of God. Using a concordance or reference tools, delve into the Word and allow the Lord to give you a deeper revelation of it.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
3. Listen to the Word — Build up your faith by listening to God’s Word preached on a regular basis at church, on TV or radio, and on CDs or mp3s.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
4. Speak the Word — Strengthen and encourage yourself daily by speaking God’s Word over every area of your life and in every situation.
“…but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” (Matthew 8:8)
5. Think the Word — Dominate and control your thought life by filling your mind with God’s Word.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
6. Do the Word — Be obedient to the Word of God. Make it your final authority. Do what the Word says to do, rather than what your flesh wants to do.
“But be ye doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22)
7. Worship God with the Word — As you worship the Lord, use scriptures from the Psalms and other books of the Bible to express your love and adoration to Him.
“God is a Spirit : and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Thy word is truth.” (John 4:24, John 17:17)
